Budget 2027 was announced today. From 1 January 2027 the 20% income tax band rises by €2,500 to €46,500 for single people and €55,500 for married couples and civil partners, with up to €37,500 more where both partners earn. The personal, employee (PAYE) and earned income tax credits each rise by €125 to €2,125, the home carer credit rises by €100 to €2,050, and the USC 2% band is extended to €30,300. The rent tax credit rises to €1,150, or €2,300 for a jointly assessed couple.

It depends on your income and circumstances. In the Government's own examples, a single PAYE worker earning €30,000 is about €218 a year better off, someone on €50,000 is about €691 better off and someone on €100,000 is about €616 better off, after Income Tax, USC and PRSI. Enter your details in the calculator above to see your own figure.

Employee PRSI is rising under changes already agreed: from 4.2% to 4.35% on 1 October 2026 and to 4.5% on 1 October 2027. The calculator includes these increases. For someone earning €50,000, the Income Tax and USC saving of about €766 is reduced by about €75 of extra PRSI, leaving a gain of about €691.

The Income Tax, USC and rent tax credit changes apply from 1 January 2027. Some measures apply sooner: the cut in the Capital Gains Tax rate from 33% to 31% applies to disposals on or after 7 October 2026, the higher Capital Acquisitions Tax thresholds apply to gifts and inheritances taken on or after 7 October 2026, and the increase in Help to Buy to €35,000 applies from 7 October 2026.

The rent tax credit rises by €150 to €1,150 for a single claimant, and by €300 to €2,300 for a jointly assessed couple. The higher amounts apply for 2027 and 2028. For 2026 the credit stays at €1,000, or €2,000 for a jointly assessed couple.

These are the measures announced in Budget 2027 on 6 October 2026. They become law when the Finance Bill is passed later in the year, and details can change along the way. We will update the calculator if anything changes.
